JOHN SWANSON DESIGN STUDIO was retained by the City of Lakewood to develop a planning and feasibility study that would address the Park as a major regional attraction to fuel economic development.  Along with the sites natural beauty, upland forests, picturesque Lake Waughop and remnant oak prairies, this 340-acre park and 105-acre 9-hole golf course site is steeped in a rich history associated with the Western State Hospital. The once small farm community serving the needs of the patients and staff is expressed in the remaining barns and silos and offers an opportunity to renew the spirit of historic awareness and civic pride and revitalize this park as a significant regional attraction.
